Welcome to the magic of Haywood County! The source of that magic can be as
elusive as the mountain fog drifting through the peaks and valleys, settling
first in that cove, then on that ridge before hovering over a body of water.
Naturally, with the Blue Ridge Parkway bordering the south and the Great Smokies
and Pisgah National Forest on the northern end of Haywood County, the scenery
provides unending delight. The grandeur of mountain vistas is punctuated by 19
peaks more than 6,000 feet in elevation, such as Cold Mountain, which inspired
the national bestseller and movie. Rushing streams provide sparkling clear
water, and we are unique because no water flows into the county. Every stream,
creek and river in the county originates here.
Established in 1808, the 546 square miles of Haywood County include four towns —
Canton, Clyde, Maggie Valley and the county seat of Waynesville.
